Getting the swing right

31-01-2013 / LI

Unobtrusive and precise measurement of elbow angle can help you to improve your golf swing. A smart device to help optimise the golf training by knowing the elbow angle is enabled by the PolyPower stretch sensors. Danfoss PolyPower A/S present an inspirational show case of such a “wireless golf training sensor”.

The stretch sensor is mounted on a sleeve, connected to a wireless interface transmitting the data to an IOS mobile device that tells you if your angle/swing was good or bad and how you can improve your swing.

The sensor measures elbow angle by stretching with the elbow during bending. This direct measurement combined with the mechanical characteristics of the sensor result in accurate and repeatable measurements once stretch has been correlated to angle.

The stretch sensors enable a wide range of biomechanical measurements as the sensors are unobtrusive and accurate.

Due to the softness and elasticity of the sensor the wearer will most often not feel it at all, meaning that it will not affect the on-going activity, like the golfer’s swing in this show case.

The sensor signal is sent via Bluetooth Low Energy to a mobile device where it is converted to angle, displacement, volume, force or possibly acceleration which is displayed via a simple app.

A video of the wireless "golf training" sensor will soon be online. In addition, a wireless interface will soon be available as evaluation sample.

Danfoss PolyPower A/S encourage project partners to develop new products and business with the unique stretch sensors.
