Sensor material characteristics

The compliant stretch sensors are utilize the PolyPower Di-electric Electro Active Polymer (DEAP) technology, making the sensors versatile and compliant, providing a direct and reliable capacitive signal.

The characteristics of the sensor material allow sensors made from it to be resilient to mechanical inaccuracies and misalignments as well as being able to sense the shape change of structures over more than one dimension. Our compliant sensor material also allows contact strain measurement of small fragile subjects and those whose movements should not be impaired by the application of a sensor.

Nominal sensor material characteristics:

Strain range Up to 100%
Stroke range mm to m range
Size range 5x5mm to 300x2000mm
Frequency range 0 to 1000Hz¹
Operating temperature range -40 to +140°C
Accuracy Determined by control electronics
Lifetime >107 cycles
Increment resolution Determined by control electronics
¹Determined by mechanical design and control electronics.

Considerations for applying the sensor material:
  • Depending on application, compensation for environmental parameters such as temperature and moisture could be required;
  • In addition to the above parameters, sensors developed using this material can be designed for low drift, high repeatability and high accuracy.
